Roaming data charges

Simple tips to reduce the roaming data charges while travelling overseas

If you are planning to travel abroad, you should ensure that you are using your home mobile phone. It will cost you a lot of money and roaming charges can break your bank. If you want to reduce the roaming data charges, you have to keep some suggestions in mind while travelling. In fact, you can easily save a fortune even as conveniently staying in touch with your loved ones back home.

Tips to reduce the roaming charges

  • Buy a roaming SIM card; having one roaming SIM card is mandatory if you are a regular traveller. With one number, you can stay in touch and just at a fraction of the cost of using your usual phone.
  • Use Wi-Fi services available or go to a nearby internet café at the foreign country. Using Skype and other VoIP providers via Wi-Fi connectivity can make it really cheap and easy for you to communicate with family, friends and colleagues. If you want to use VoIP, you either require a Smartphone with inbuilt Wi-Fi or access to an internet café.
  • Try not to use your usual mobile phone. If saving money is your first priority when you are travelling, it is better you don’t use your home mobile phone. If you use it while being abroad, you should not only end up paying a fortune to make calls but you also have to pay for the every call you receive.
  • Use SMS facilities. At times, you perhaps need to determine whether or not you need to attend a call. If you wish to get in touch with people and you want to convey a short message, just consider the use of a text message or an SMS instead of calling.
  • How about using the landline? If you want to make an outgoing call and you are in a country that has a great fixed telecommunications infrastructure, purchase an international phone card and just use a landline. This will unquestionably save you a lot of money.
